For optimization of working practices, some rebuilding was necessary, e.g. construction of an additional double door system, extension of automated small parts store, reconfiguration of the mechanical handling equipment, and construction of a two-story office tract. This is erected within the stores and logistics facility and comprises offices and staff facility rooms with a total area of 140 m2.

On behalf of the German Ministries of Defense and Foreign Affairs as well as the Federal Chancellery, the federal government is having constructed in the north of BER facilities for receiving foreign guests of state and for accommodating the VIP squadron maintained by the Ministry of Defense. 
Fichtner has been commissioned to plan the aircraft movement area and the apron adjacent to the structures, consisting of 16 aircraft stands and associated taxilanes. The entire 250,000 m² apron is constructed in concrete and designed for accommodating aircraft up to ICAO Code Letter F, for example the Airbus A380. Also the storm water drainage facilities, including storage compartments and pumping stations as well as the configuration of the apron road network form part of the planning services. Furthermore the construction phase concept was drawn up.

The jointless framework structure spans approximately 22 m and is designed for road traffic together with a footpath and a cycle track. 
The total width of the bridge is 10.65 m, and in the longitudinal direction the deck slab is connected to the abutments via inclined haunches.

The Home Office of Fichtner GmbH & Co. KG consists of two office blocks.
To shorten pedestrian routes from one block to the other, the first and second upper stories were each provided with a new bridge link.
A planning stipulation was that these had to be aesthetically attractive and unobtrusive, require only minor changes to the buildings and be quick to implement.
The result was unroofed steel structures with grid flooring and banisters of plate steel.  To provide a decorative feature in the banisters, holes were punched in the steel plates to form a pattern in the outline of a tree from the nearby Rosenstein Park.
The bridges were delivered on site ready prefabricated and they could be put in place, complete, in just one day.

Dresden International Airport Refurbishment of runway

Dresden Airport identified the necessity for refurbishing its existing runway 04/22. Different options were investigated. Finally it was decided to construct a new and extended take-off and landing runway system to replace the existing runway.  The new 2850 m long and 60 m wide runway of concrete construction was placed immediately adjacent to the original runway, which was then demolished. This project also included the adaptation of taxiways, perimeter road and other site roads, airport security fence, storm water drainage, cable conduit system, airfield lighting, installations, signage, Navaids and meteorological installations.
The construction works were predominantly carried out at night-time during interruption of flight operation. During the day flight operation could be maintained.

The Ministry of Economy of Montenegro is improving the Energy Efficiency in public buildings across the country. A total of 40 school buildings, including dormitories and playschools have to be assessed by walkthrough audits (WTA), and a shortlist of 30 is drawn up and ranked accordingly. These are the subject of detailed energy audits (DEA). Based on the measures suggested, a design is prepared and clusters of five schools published to international tender on a turnkey basis. Fichtner evaluates the tenders and supervises the construction works. Upon completion of construction, a verification audit will be carried out to confirm attainment of the target of 20% energy savings.

Extension of pit for foundry sand regeneration equipment

In the foundry in the plant, the sand regeneration equipment is to be changed out. The new equipment is to be set up as a mechanical structure within a deep reinforced concrete pit. To raise plant capacity, enlargement of an existing trench that is impervious to water ingress is planned. A stipulation for planning and execution is that construction must be done during the restricted plant outage time for major inspection and overhaul. Because the water table is near the ground surface and space within the foundry is very restricted, it was necessary to closely collaborate with other specialist planners for implementation, so a detailed construction schedule had to be drawn up.

This company has given notice of a raised steam demand over the medium term, so extension of the condensate polishing plant is necessary. 
For this purpose, an additional steel structure is to be erected with no structurally relevant connection to the existing buildings and with foundations, comprising a floor slab with foundation beams.

For this expansion, the association reckons with costs of around €750,000 net, of which €500,000 is for equipment and €250,000 for construction.

In the context of a financial cooperation, the Federal Republic of Germany is supporting a project to finance the grid connection of the hydroelectric power plant (HPP) Lai Châu on the Black River (Song Da) in northern Vietnam. For this purpose a 160 km long 500 kV high-voltage transmission line from Lai Châu t to Son La is built. The switchgear in Son La is expanded accordingly. The HPP Lai Châu (1,200 MW) is under construction and being connected to the Vietnamese grid to supply load centers mainly in the north and center of the country.
The construction of the hydroelectric plant Lai Châu is particularly considered an associated project in relation to environmental and social aspects. In addition to the expansion of the switchgear, a second component of the project is to ensuring the environmental and social compatibility of the construction and operation of HPP Lai Châu, including the network connection.

Due to the procurement of the new aircraft type Airbus A380 Lufthansa Technik decided to construct a new maintenance hangar for the A380 at Frankfurt International Airport. Additional to the maintenance hangar the internal site development covers the adjacent 74,000 m² apron, including 400 Hz electricity supply for three aircraft stands, area lighting and other external facilities, with roads, parking lots and storage areas, covering a total of 30,000 m². Also projected are central utility services networks for storm water drainage consisting of three sub-networks, sewage, drinking and service water, a local heating plant as well as a cable duct network. Furthermore the project includes a service connection to a warehouse, a security building with gates and barriers as well as perimeter fencing around the entire site.

In connection with location development, various systems for heat and cold generation are investigated and assessed under the aspect of their life cycle costs. The result is a group heating and cooling network with heating and cooling capacities of respectively 3.8 MW and 3.5 MW.  This power requirement is met by two 500 kWt packaged CHP units and two 1500 kW woodchip-fired boilers. Two absorption refrigeration units generate the cooling baseload from the CHP units' output power. Two additional compression refrigeration machines meet the balance of the cooling demand at peak load times. To avert failure of the IT installations, two mutually independent server rooms are installed, linked in a star configuration with the buildings.

After completing a new structure at the clinic, in 2004 a start was made with refurbishment of the historic building. It was connected to the new structure by an underground collector system that serves as a supply traffic link.
Because the original building continued in full operation, it could only be refurbished in stages, so one building section would be fully renovated and reoccupied before making a start on the next one.
The building, that is under a preservation order, was completely gutted and its interior rebuilt, in line with present-day space needs and technical requirements.

The construction of the connections is by turnkey contractors. The wind park clusters to be connected are BorWin, DolWin, HelWin and Sylwin.
The aim of the projects is to connect the energy generated by the offshore wind parks to the existing land based High Voltage distribution network. A network connection consists of an Offshore Convertor Platform housing a high voltage AC to DC electricity convertor station. The output of the platform is through a High Voltage DC cable at +/- 320kV connecting to a further land based Convertor Station up to 200km away. The land based convertor station converts the incoming DC voltage back to AC and makes the connection to feed the land based High Voltage distribution system.

Revitalization of a building ensemble from the 1870s German-Austrian neo-renaissance, 1st Viennese District
The building of landmark status designed by the architects Romano and Schwendenwein is located at Getreidemarkt, near the Museums Quarter.
Renovation is state of the art and the interior architecture is brought up to a standard matching its inner-city location. The building is being fully refurbished and also extended by fitting out two attic stories.
A key aspect is to accentuate parts of the building of particular historical significance, like representative foyers and stairwells with attractive panorama elevators and adjacent reception zones, and to install internal light shafts in the centers of leased units.
Created within the existing building substance are modern, open, flexible structures and functional areas. The focus is not on the technology, but rather on the enclosed space and atmosphere that is created, firstly by the emphasis placed on historical structural elements and, secondly, by the use of high quality materials.

All measures were carried out under full hospital operation.
A special feature of the project was the lowering of the inner courtyard, which led to shifting of all the main media lines.

The Wiener Netze power and natural gas distribution network operator is erecting a new company headquarters, the 'Smart Campus', in the 11th Viennese District. Throughout all phases, from planning through construction up to operation, ecological criteria are to be met.
The main ‘Smart Campus’ premises are planned as an interlinked building complex for the sole use of the utility.
Building levels are assigned to the company activities of operation, support and administration.
The operating functions with storage and workshop facilities are brought together in a two-story ‘plinth’ while the administration as a standard-setting campus is located on the greened roofs of the workshops.
The quintessential functional and design feature is the linear infrastructural and communications axis. This east-west spine is the principal axis to which all services functions of the building complex are connected. Generously dimensioned air spaces ensure natural lighting of the entire internal access and core zones, promote staff communication and offer, thanks to their linear configuration, optimal orientation,
The building consists of a basement, ground floor, four upper stories and the top story with roof.
At scattered locations, areas are constructed with lifting equipment beneath the floor plates.
The escape level of the fourth upper story at 15.48 m is below 22 m, so the construction project is not subject to the Austrian regulations on fire protection in high-rise buildings.
The building accommodates the primary administrative support center for the Viennese energy power network utility, Wien Energie Stromnetz GmbH, but also contains units with operative functions.
In total, up to 1400 staff, including all organizational reserves, will be employed within the Smart Campus. Added to this are a maximum of 300 people present temporarily when events are staged. 
The buildings are located on the site of a former coking plant for gas manufacture so the entire soil material is contaminated. This soil is transported away by rail, so relieving the urban traffic load.
